Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set a target of concluding the national recapitulation of domestic votes of the 2024 General Elections on March 18, prior to the initial scheduled date of March 20.

"Our target is to complete the recapitulation ahead of the scheduled date. We might reach a conclusion on March 18," KPU Commissioner August Mellaz remarked at the KPU Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

He noted that the commission had also been monitoring recapitulation processes currently ongoing at various levels while emphasizing that the processes are about to be completed.

"We are also monitoring the recapitulation processes ongoing at regional levels, including in provinces. The processes have reached the final phase," he pointed out.

According to KPU Regulation No.3 of 2022, the national recapitulation of votes in the 2024 General Elections was scheduled to start on February 15 and conclude on March 20, 2024.

As of Wednesday, the KPU has validated presidential election votes in 18 provinces: Yogyakarta, Gorontalo, Central Kalimantan, Bali, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, West Kalimantan, South Sumatra, Central Java, Jakarta, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Riau Islands, East Nusa Tenggara, Banten, North Kalimantan, East Java, and Southeast Sulawesi.

In the 2024 General Elections, Indonesians cast their votes for candidates for president and vice president, national and regional legislators, as well as senators. A total of 204,807,222 citizens were registered in the fixed voter list (DPT).

Three pairs are contesting in the presidential election, with Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar claiming serial number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka clinching number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD contesting as pair number 3.

Meanwhile, 18 national political parties and six local political parties from Aceh Province are participating in the legislative elections, eyeing seats at the House of Representatives (DPR), regional legislative councils (DPRDs), and Regional Representative Council (DPD).
