Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The bed occupancy rate (BOR) at COVID-19 hospitals in Yogyakarta city is currently still around 10–11 percent despite an increase in active cases in the city, an official has said.

“The average occupancy of beds for treatment of COVID-19 patients is around 10 percent to 11 percent, (for) critical and non-critical (patients),” head of the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Emma Rahmi Aryani, said here on Friday.

The current BOR is almost the same as Thursday (August 11, 2022), when it stood at 10.7 percent, reflecting that 15 beds were occupied out of 140 beds prepared to treat critical patients.

The occupancy rate of beds prepared to treat non-critical patients reached 6.22 percent, or 82 beds occupied out of 1,318 beds.

The Health Office is still asking hospitals to provide beds to treat COVID-19 patients, especially amid the current increase in cases.

In the period from July 31 to August 6, Yogyakarta city recorded 180 new COVID-19 cases, 129 recoveries, and zero deaths.

Despite the increase in cases, most areas of the city are categorized as yellow zones, or areas with a low risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Nevertheless, the community is still advised to comply with the health protocols by wearing masks, regularly washing hands, maintaining distance, and avoiding risky interactions.

Meanwhile, the director of Jogja Hospital, Ariyudi Yunita, has made sure to provide beds for the treatment of COVID-19 patients with critical and non-critical conditions.

"Currently, there are only three patients who are being treated in non-critical (beds). Previously, there was one patient who was treated in critical, but the patient's condition improved," Yunita added.

She said that her hospital did not increase the capacity of treatment beds because the number of beds was still considered sufficient. "On average, the patients being treated are in fairly good condition and (there have been) almost no cases of death," she informed.
