Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has said that the 77th anniversary of Indonesia's independence is a momentum to promote the country's tourism villages.

"We will announce today for every tourism village to hold events, in addition to (flag-hoisting) ceremonies. There should also be competitions," he informed at a press conference here on Monday.

Tourism villages scattered throughout must organize special events that feature the uniqueness of their respective regions on August 17, the country’s Independence Day, to attract domestic and foreign tourists, he said.

There must be optimal participation from super-priority tourist destinations such as Borobudur Temple in Central Java province, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Lake Toba in North Sumatra, and Likupang in North Sulawesi, in Independence Day celebrations, he added.

"This opens up opportunities to promote more," he noted, adding that the August 17 celebration is not only for tourism villages, but for all of Indonesia.

Tourism activists and creative economy players are expected to find interesting places for Red-and-White flag-hoisting ceremonies and celebrations.

Videos and photographs of flag-hoisting ceremonies must be uploaded on social media, including on the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry's website, to promote tourism, the minister added.

"We want to also focus on the five super-priority tourist destinations and Bali to also promote ecotourism spots as the sites of the Red-and-White flag-hoisting ceremonies," he said.
