Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that the revitalization of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), a cultural-recreational park in East Jakarta, has reached 98 percent completion.

After reviewing the revitalization of TMII here on Tuesday, Widodo told reporters that the current major revitalization is the first one since the park was inaugurated on April 20,1975.

He expressed the hope that TMII would become an attraction for domestic and international tourists once the revitalization is finished.

He advised that the entry price to TMII not be kept high. "People must still be able to enjoy this TMII," he added.

While reviewing the pavilions of each province in the park, Widodo noted that many of them were damaged. Therefore, he ordered each provincial government to rehabilitate its respective pavilion.

"Some provinces have started to renovate and build. We hope that all will be finished by the end of this year," he said.

He also asked the managers of TMII to regularly hold art and cultural activities at all pavilions and the open stage at the park.

“So, there should be a clear calendar of events; (the art and cultural activities can) become a good show for the people, especially for our children," he said.

The revitalization of TMII is regulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 116 of 2021 concerning the acceleration of infrastructure development implementation to support the implementation of international events in Bali, Jakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara provinces.

The park's revitalization is in line with Indonesia's G20 presidency and it will be one of the venues for the G20 Summit.

Earlier, Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, during a working meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) last June, had said that his ministry had prepared a budget of Rp1.2 trillion for the revitalization of TMII.
