Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo has urged all parties to participate in carrying out education and prevention efforts to keep more Indonesians from falling victim to investment scams.

"We cannot let them get trapped by the irresponsible lure of an investment scam that promises large profit, but is only an illusion," he remarked here on Saturday.

"This becomes the duty of crypto players to educate the people," he added.

Investment scams are not a recent phenomenon—they have been going on for quite some time, he noted.

The government's role thus far in supporting efforts to prevent investment scams has been involving related institutions in coordinated action for providing education to the people, he informed.

"Hence, the government has issued regulation on digital economy," Soestayo noted.

Moreover, the MPR lauded PT Cipta Aset Digital that has created a crypto investment exchange that is different from other digital investments.

Meanwhile, Indonesia itself has currently become a destination for global crypto investments. Hence, Indonesia is no longer just a market, but has also become a player.

In 2021, digital transactions almost reached Rp832 trillion, surpassing stock exchange transactions, whose value only reached around Rp332 trillion.

Earlier, the National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) said it recorded 792 consumer reports in the period from January 1 to August 12, 2022.

At an online press conference on August 18, BPKN head Rizal E. Halim informed that the issues that the agency handled in August 2022 pertained to investment scams, robot trading, and insurance.

In addition, BPKN also received complaints regarding contaminated baby powder, dangerous plastic packaging, land mafia, the rise in airplane ticket prices, and the global food crisis.
