Synergy developed among diaspora has been successful in creating new jobs for Indonesians, encouraging MSMEs to go global, and attracting international investments.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, has urged the Indonesian diaspora to play an active role in supporting the exports of products made by Indonesian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The Indonesian diaspora's globalized network and community are a valuable asset for enhancing and accelerating national development, he said.

"Synergy developed among diaspora has been successful in creating new jobs for Indonesians, encouraging MSMEs to go global, and attracting international investments. We hope positive cooperation and collaboration can advance further to develop Indonesia," Thohir said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

The Indonesian diaspora has a key role in maintaining the nation’s good reputation and image through their active participation in promoting business opportunities and potential as well as Indonesian cultural heritage on the global stage, the minister noted.

Thohir said that overseas Indonesians have an important role in consolidating efforts to bring Indonesia to the global stage. In the context of total diplomacy, the Indonesian diaspora has also made a significant contribution to the national economy and development, he added.

"I want to express my utmost appreciation to the Indonesian diaspora, who have presented their optimum contribution to the nation," the minister remarked.

He asked overseas Indonesians to support the government's strategic policies at the global level, particularly on the MSME export program.

The minister also lauded state-owned companies for enabling their MSME partners to participate in the 2022 Tong-Tong Fair at The Hague, the Netherlands, from September 1–11, 2022.

Thohir expressed the hope that the Dutch festival would serve as a medium for state companies to support MSMEs in reaching the global market and upgrading themselves.

The Tong-Tong Fair has a long history with its first edition held in 1959, therefore, the festival is an appropriate platform for promoting the Indonesian economy and tourism to the Indonesian diaspora residing in the Netherlands, he added.
