Jakarta (ANTARA) - New capital (IKN) Nusantara’s road infrastructure may feature electric charging lane technology that will allow electric vehicles to charge their batteries while moving in the lanes, the IKN Infrastructure Development Implementation Task Force has said.

Conceptually, an electric charging lane is a road infrastructure that can help charge a battery installed within an electric vehicle while it crosses the road.

Electric charging lanes have been implemented in several countries and many trials of this concept have been carried out, head of the task force, Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, informed during the Hutama Karya ExperTalk webinar on Thursday.

The government is exploring this option because vehicles that utilize fuel oil will not be used in IKN, with only electric vehicles allowed in the new capital, he said.

In addition to electric charging lanes, many more smart and sustainable concepts will be implemented in Nusantara.

Earlier, the Ministry of Transportation said that IKN will only utilize eco-friendly vehicles as well as the latest technology, such as self-driving vehicles.

This aligns with the mandate from President Joko Widodo, who has instructed that only electric vehicles be used in IKN to preserve its environment.

The President has also instructed that vehicles using fossil fuels not be used in IKN.

The development phase was launched with the signing of contracts for 19 project packages in Jakarta on August 29, 2022.

This year’s Phase 1 comprising 19 project packages is worth Rp5.3 trillion.
