Let us participate in the drafting of the National Education System Bill
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim highlighted the government's open and transparent stance as well as approach to involve the public in drafting the National Education System Bill (RUU Sisdiknas).

"We are very transparent and conduct public involvement in the preparation of the National Education System Bill. We have met more than 90 educational institutions and organizations, and we will continue to intensify it," Makarim stated here on Friday.

He said the ministry will continue to improve communication and the dissemination of information regarding the draft bill as is apparent from the involvement of experts and educational organizations as well as public access to download and provide inputs on the National Education System Bill manuscript.

"All information and details about RUU Sisdiknas, the articles, and its explanation are on our page. Let us participate in the drafting of the National Education System Bill," he remarked.

Furthermore, the minister pointed out that some educational issues brought up by the public were already addressed by incorporating into the bill, including non-formal education, such as courses and training.

Article 47, paragraph 1 of the National Education System Bill stipulates that non-formal education encompasses childcare services, education packages for equality (pendidikan kesetaraan), life skills education, Islamic boarding school (pesantren) that studies the Kitab kuning or set of the Islamic texts, and non-formal religious education.

Article 51, paragraph 1 stipulates that "life skills education" as referred to in Article 47, paragraph 1 aims to enhance self-development, character, ethics, and/or culture. The law also explains life skills education in the form of courses and training.

Other examples of organizing life skills education are job training centers, education and training centers in government agencies, modular learning systems, such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), literacy education (targeting illiterate persons), and continuing professional development.
