We are proud that the domestic medical device industry, especially the ventilator industry, has succeeded in increasing the competitiveness of the national industry...Jakarta (ANTARA) - The production of domestically made ventilators is supporting the Increasing Domestic Products Utilization (P3DN) Program and the substitution of imported medical devices, an official from the Industry Ministry said in a statement received here on Friday.
"The global ventilator market is estimated to grow 5 percent annually, with a value of US$5.79 billion in 2021, and it will continue to increase to reach US$9.13 billion in 2027," Secretary of the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery Industry, Transportation, and Electronic Equipment of the ministry M. Arifin said during the “Dissemination of Domestic Ventilator Products” in Semarang City, Central Java Province.
The demand for ventilators around the world will continue to grow, not only for COVID-19 patients, but also for other chronic diseases patients, he projected.
Competition in the global ventilator industry has continued to increase due to various innovations, he noted.
Hence, the directorate general has continued to support the growth and independence of the local medical device industry by providing various conducive policies and instruments to bolster the development of the domestic industry and increase the competence of human resources.
"We are proud that the domestic medical device industry, especially the ventilator industry, has succeeded in increasing the competitiveness of the national industry by creating ventilators which are able to obtain distribution permits from the Health Ministry," the official said.
Distribution permits have been issued for the ICU Ventilator V-01 and Emergency Ventilator R-03, which have domestic component level (TKDN) certificates with a value of 43.16 percent and 41.90 percent, respectively.
In addition, there are several domestic ventilators that have been developed by state colleges, including high-end ventilators made by YPTI of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), transport ventilators by University of Indonesia (UI), emergency ventilators by Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), as well as portable emergency ventilators by Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS).
Furthermore, the ministry is also cooperating with the Central Java provincial government to strengthen the commitment of local hospitals and health education institutions to using domestic products.
