These (personal data protection efforts) must be supported by the media, so that information can be disseminated to the community regarding ways to protect personal data
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) Kresna Dewanata Phrosakh encouraged all mass media in the country to disseminate information to the community on ways to protect personal data.

"These (personal data protection efforts) must be supported by the media, so that information can be disseminated to the community regarding ways to protect personal data," Phrosakh remarked at the "The Role of Media in Protecting Personal Data" seminar held online followed here on Tuesday.

The House member expected that the dissemination of information on ways to protect personal data could also reach people in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas.

Phrosakh deemed it crucial to raise awareness, as the government, through the Telecommunication and Informatics Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, had readied various facilities related to digital technology across the country, including 3T areas.

In addition, he noted that mass media must disseminate information regarding the crucial role of the personal data protection law, which will be ratified soon to protect the personal data of Indonesians.

On that occasion, apart from mass media, he also encouraged the seminar's participants to educate people around them, including family members and friends, regarding ways that can be adopted to protect personal data.

He remarked that members of the House' Commission I continuously make efforts to disseminate information in their electoral districts regarding ways to protect personal data and aspects that are regulated in the personal data protection bill that will be passed as law in the near future.

He then reminded electronic system operators (PSEs) to be aware of their responsibilities in protecting the data of the community as users.

"Thus, we expect all (mass media, the government, the community, and PSEs) to cooperate (in maximizing personal data protection)," the legislator remarked.
