Our national credo is that independence is the inalienable right of all nations, and therefore, all forms of colonialism must be abolished because it is not in conformity with humanity and justiceJakarta (ANTARA) - The ultimate goal of the Indonesian nation is perpetual peace that should be achieved through mutual understanding and respect for national sovereignty, according to Indonesia's fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri.
"Our national credo is that independence is the inalienable right of all nations, and therefore, all forms of colonialism must be abolished because it is not in conformity with humanity and justice," Soekarnoputri stated, as per a statement received here, Thursday (September 15) evening.
Soekarnoputri made the remarks while serving as keynote speaker at the 2022 Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity in Jeju, South Korea, along with former United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and US State of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.

Soekarnoputri said that world peace could be achieved if every country respects other nations' sovereignty, respects humanity and justice in international relations, and prioritizes negotiations in conflict resolution.
The former president pointed out that when the global community was divided into two poles during the Cold War, the Asian-African Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement were two major contributions by the Asian and African nations to address the global division during the era.
National founder Soekarno had called for strengthening the UN's role in establishing peace through internal reform to ensure equal rights of all member states and removal of veto powers in his remarks delivered before the UN General Assembly in 1960, the former president noted.
"To support the effort to strengthen the philosophical foundation of the birth of UN, Soekarno also proposed (the Indonesian national ideology of) Pancasila as part of the UN Charter," she affirmed.

Soekarnoputri, who currently serves as head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency's (BPIP's) steering committee, expounded that Pancasila comprises five universal values: belief in god, humanity, unity, democracy, and social justice.
"With Pancasila, the global fraternity would be enhanced, so nations can live and coexist peacefully and strive together to achieve a prosperous and just world," she remarked.
The universal ideas remain relevant in all conditions, as the human race aspires for a peaceful, prosperous, and just world, Soekarnoputri highlighted.
