TIIWG is one of the 13 working groups that are part of the Sherpa track.
"The main agenda of our meeting is drafting the G20 Ministerial Statement on trade, investment and industry. We hope every delegate of G20 member countries can contribute actively, while discussing six priority issues to accelerate the global economic recovery and address the global economic challenges," the Indonesian Trade Ministry's Director General for International Trade Negotiations, concurrently Chair of TIIWG Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, said in a statement on Monday.
Achieving a consensus in finalizing the G20 Minister Statement is crucial as a solution to deal with the global economic challenges, according to Witjaksono, while opening the third TIIWG Meeting held for two days in Badung, Bali Province.
The six priority issues tabled for discussion are reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO); the role of the multilateral trading system to strengthen the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and the response of trade, investment and industry to pandemics and the global health architecture; digital trade and sustainable global value chains; sustainable investment for global economic recovery; and inclusive and sustainable industrialization through industry 4.0.
The TIIWG G20 Presidency will consider all views and inputs from all G20 countries in a balanced manner and focus on common views in all priority agendas, he noted.
“We will focus the discussion on substantial issues related to the six priority issues and keep other issues that may cause controversy until the end of our discussion. We also emphasize that it is important for the delegates to present reasons related to the recommendations for substantive changes that will be submitted later," he added.
The first and second TIIWG meetings were held in March and last July under Indonesia's G20 Presidency .
"We believe the results of the TIIWG discussion can contribute to a strong, resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic recovery, and contribute to the successful implementation of Indonesia's G20 Presidency," he noted.
