After dynamic deliberations, the final version of the bill expanded into 16 sections and 76 articles from the earlier government draft that comprised 15 sections and 12 articles
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR RI) passed the Personal Protection Bill (RUU PDP) as law during the parliament's plenary session on Tuesday.

"Could the Personal Protection Bill be passed as law?" DPR RI Deputy Speaker Lodewick Freidrich Paulus asked legislators while presiding over the plenary session at the Parliament Complex here.

Legislators present at the plenary session unanimously responded to the deputy speaker in the affirmative, thereby signaling approval of the bill's passing.

Earlier, DPR RI Commission I Deputy Chair Abdul Kharis Almasyhari in his report expressed optimism that the bill would be a milestone in the protection of personal data in Indonesia and address personal data leakage issues.

"After dynamic deliberations, the final version of the bill expanded into 16 sections and 76 articles from the earlier government draft that comprised 15 sections and 12 articles," Almasyhari noted.

The parliamentary commission also took pro-active and responsive actions in the bill drafting through the involvement of residents and relevant stakeholders' participation and accepting public inputs to the bill draft, he remarked.

The newly passed law regulates types of personal data, rights of the data subject, data processing, obligations of data processors and controllers, data transfer, as well as prohibitions on personal data utilization and criminal provisions, and others.
