After Greater Jakarta, major cities will follow (the ASO program), such as Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, then outside Java, Banjarmasin, Bali, Palembang, and Makassar.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Information Ministry will help other major Indonesian cities migrate from analog to digital television broadcast once the Greater Jakarta analog switch-off (ASO) is completed on October 5, 2022.
"After Greater Jakarta, major cities will follow (the ASO program), such as Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, then outside Java, Banjarmasin, Bali, Palembang, and Makassar," the ministry's director of broadcasting, Geryantika Kurnia, informed here on Friday.
There are 40 other service areas that will have the potential to meet the ASO criteria soon, he added.

The 40 service regions will be monitored and prepared to welcome the fully digital TV broadcast. There are three criteria that the ministry has prepared for an area to completely transition from analog to digital TV broadcast.
The criteria are: analog TV broadcast must exist in the region and be ready to be turned off, the digital TV broadcast must be ready to replace it, and set-top box (STB) assistance must have been fully distributed to poor households.
Once these requirements are met, communities can enjoy digital television broadcast services with clearer images and optimal quality.

According to the ministry, the multi-stage or multiple ASO scheme based on each region's readiness is the most appropriate way for ASO to be implemented in Indonesia.
In the Greater Jakarta area, ASO will be implemented starting October 5 in 14 cities and districts, including all administrative regions of Jakarta, Bekasi district and city, Bogor district and city, Depok city, Tangerang district and city, and South Tangerang city, among others.
The ASO program of the ministry is based on Law No. 11 of 2021 on Job Creation, which stipulates analog television broadcast needs to be ended by November 2 this year at the latest, and replaced by digital television broadcast.
