We appeal for support from companies to ensure all of their employees and family members are included in the JKN program to achieve complete health protection for all residents to ensure workers' health and increased productivity.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The registration of employees with the state-run Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) for National Health Insurance (JKN) reflects employers' thoughtfulness regarding employee welfare, a BPJS Kesehatan official said on Thursday.

"(BPJS Kesehatan membership) demonstrates the thoughtfulness and responsibility toward employees' health and assurance to (the company's) health budget, hence, the human resources department need not ponder over the healthcare services fee," BPJS Kesehatan’s Deputy Director for Coverage Expansion Kisworowati said during a focus group discussion on the National Health Insurance program and company productivity, which was followed online from here.

Employers who register their employees for the JKN program are abiding with Presidential Instruction No. 1 of 2022, which assures healthcare protection as a basic right for residents, she noted.

One benefit of JKN membership is that members can access healthcare services nationwide with the assurance of standardized service, she highlighted.

Other benefits of the insurance membership are access to medicines at primary-level healthcare facilities for chronic, high-risk diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as free ambulance services, she added.

"What differentiates JKN from private insurance is that we are required to be non-profit, hence, we obtain no profits from the JKN program," Kisworowati affirmed.

She disclosed that as of August 31, 2022, JKN coverage has reached at least 243.2 million residents, or 88.83 percent of Indonesia's 273 million population.

The national medium-term development plan targets 98 percent JKN program coverage nationwide by 2024 to ensure thorough health protection and equal access to healthcare services, the deputy director added.

"We appeal for support from companies to ensure all of their employees and family members are included in the JKN program to achieve complete health protection for all residents to ensure workers' health and increased productivity," Kisworowati remarked.
