Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry urged the State-Owned Social Security Agency (BPJamsostek) to continue to expand the membership scope, not just to employers but also employees.

Currently, both companies and employees have a low level of awareness over the importance of this BPJamsostek program, the ministry's official, Sahala Pasaribu, noted here, Wednesday.

To this end, he urged all parties, especially the agency, to continue to disseminate information on the benefits of participating in the BPJamsostek program.

This is undertaken, so that if there are workers who died, then their heirs, such as children, can have their education funded until the university level.

Thus, he supports the goodwill of online transportation companies that register their drivers to participate in the BPJamsostek program, so they can comfortably work with confidence.

"This builds work confidence and comfort without thinking about costs if accidents were to occur, and it will improve productivity," he remarked.

According to Law No. 40 of 2004 on the social security system, which comprises health insurance, work accident insurance, and death insurance, all workers have to pay dues.

Such dues are expected to provide a sense of security to workers, so that they can remain productive.

The dues that workers have to pay independently is Rp16,899, with Rp10 thousand for Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Rp6,800 for Death Insurance (JK).

In future, Pasaribu expects BPJamsostek to consider if there are wage earners, who quit their jobs to enter the non-wage earner group (BPU), so that they can still receive social security benefits and protection.

BPJamsostek is committed to facilitating social security for online transportation drivers that are included within the BPU group.

Assistant Deputy Director of Jakarta BPJamsostek Zayn Setiadi noted here, Wednesday, that this commitment is a form of effort to protect workers in the event of work-related accidents.
