Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) is seeking to optimize public involvement in radicalism and terrorism prevention as part of effort to thwart its growth and development in the country.

"Optimum prevention must be done by prioritizing innovations," Chief of BNPT Supervision Sub-directorate Marine Colonel Edy Cahyanto said.

Cahyanto made the remarks at a coordination meeting on monitoring public involvement in preventing radicalism and terrorism through the Counter-Terrorism Coordination Forum (FKPT) in Palu, Central Sulawesi on Thursday.

He said public involvement in preventing radicalism and terrorism through the FKPT and multi parties is very important.

At the coordination meeting, he asked FKPT branch in Central Sulawesi to make more innovations, and launch more programs and activities offline or online to thwart radicalism and terrorism.

"FKPT serves as a spearhead to prevent radicalism and terrorism in regions formed by BNPT on the hope that it can reach the general public to give understanding about the danger of radicalism and terrorism," he said.

Efforts to disseminate information on the danger of radicalism and tourism and the characteristics of radicalism and terrorism must continue so that the general public particularly younger generation will have a good knowledge of them, he said.

The efforts can be made by building partnership with regional governments, state-owned companies, regional government-owned companies, religious organizations, youth organizations, and so on.

"The step to prevent (radicalism and terrorism) through information about the danger and characteristics of radicalism can be taken online and offline," he said.
