Canada participates actively in the CPTPP at all levels to advance work towards implementation and expansion of the agreement through the accession of new members
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Canadian Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development Mary Ng will visit Indonesia on October 10-12 to intensify economic relations in the Indo-Pacific region.

Minister Mary Ng would visit Jakarta, Indonesia, on October 10-12, during which she would meet with Indonesian government partners and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) officials and to bolster Canada’s trade and investment relations in the Indo-Pacific region, the Embassy of Canada in Jakarta noted in a statement on Friday.

According to the Embassy, during her visit, Mary Ng will also be engaging with businesses, including women entrepreneurs, to advance bilateral trade and commercial relations between Canada and Indonesia.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Indonesia and the 45th anniversary of Canada-ASEAN partner relations.

Hence, Mary Ng will also discuss progress in the negotiations pertaining to the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

During those meetings, Mary Ng will focus on advancing Canada’s trade diversification strategy and economic resilience while also advocating for the strengthening of a rules-based international trade system.

Before visiting Indonesia, she will visit Singapore on October 7-8 to attend the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Commission meetings.

Mary Ng will be joined by counterparts from other CPTPP economies, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Minister will continue to promote Canada’s interests in diversifying trade with key markets around the world and supporting an effective, open, inclusive, and rules-based global trading system, according to the embassy's statement.

"Canada participates actively in the CPTPP at all levels to advance work towards implementation and expansion of the agreement through the accession of new members," it stated.
