The ship would participate in a cooperative deployment with the Indonesian Navy in order to reinforce security and promote stability in the region, the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta informed in a statement issued on Thursday.
During the visit, Commanding Officer of HMCS Winnipeg, Annick Fortin, will make courtesy calls on Commander of the Indonesian Fleet Command, Vice Admiral Abdul Rasyid Kacong, and Commander of the First Fleet Command, Rear Admiral Arsyad Abdullah, to discuss issues of mutual interest.

"Canada values its strong and growing bilateral defense relationship with Indonesia," Ambassador-designate of Canada to Indonesia Nadia Burger said.
According to Ambassador Burger, Canada considers Indonesia an important partner in the Indo-Pacific region and appreciates the critical role Indonesia plays in maintaining the overall peace, stability, and prosperity of the region.
"As Canada and Indonesia celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, this ship visit is an expression of our shared commitment to deepening this increasingly significant relationship," she said.
The visit of HMCS Winnipeg is part of Operation Projection -- a deployment of sailors, ships, and submarines to demonstrate Canada's ongoing commitment to global peace.

"We look forward to meeting and training alongside our Indonesian partners in this, our first port visit of Operation Projection in 2022," Commander Fortin said.
"As per our motto - ‘One with the strength of many’ - HMCS Winnipeg is ready to uphold Canada’s ongoing commitment to global peace and security, and enhance relationships with Canada’s allies and partners," she added.
HMCS Winnipeg is scheduled to leave Jakarta on Saturday (September 3) and will remain in the Indo-Pacific region, working with other allies and partners, before returning to Canada in December.
