Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Nation Awakening Party (PKB) will declare its presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2024 elections soon.



"In the near future. The end of this month at the latest," PKB chairperson Muhaimin Iskandar informed at the East Jakarta Sports Stadium on Friday.



Cak Imin, as the PKB chairperson is popularly called, said that the PKB has signed a contract with the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party to join forces in the run-up to the 2024 polls.

"Insya Allah (God Willing), (we) will follow up on it (the contract) through agreements, including declaring the presidential and vice presidential candidates," he said.



PKB has so far fostered political communication with several parties, including Gerindra. In fact, the two parties registered for the 2024 elections together some time ago.

As per Article 222 of the General Election Law No. 7/2017, a party or a coalition of parties must secure a minimum of 20 percent of parliamentary seats or 25 percent of the popular vote to nominate a candidate in the presidential election.



In the 2019 elections, PKB, which ranked fifth, secured 58 seats or 9.69 percent of the parliamentary seats, while Gerindra, which came third, won 78 or 12.57 percent seats.



So far, only the National Democratic (NasDem) Party and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) have declared their presidential candidates.
