Sidoarjo, E Java (ANTARA) - Three people died, while 43 others got injured in a single bus crash that occurred on Kejapanan toll road's KM 762.800/B in Sidoarjo District, East Java, on Monday morning, according to the police.

The dead victims are identified as Moch Rofik Hidayat, Yana, and Berryl Chafa, who are residents of East Java, Head of the East Java Police's Traffic Division Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dwi Sumrahadi remarked.

Three other people aboard the ill-fated bus, with license plate number AA 1688 AD, survived the accident without sustaining any injury, he stated.

This tourist bus crash took place at around 2:45 a.m. local time after the bus driver, Agus Supriyanto, 51, suddenly lost control.

The bus hit a guard rail of a bridge; crashed a concrete barrier; and then overturned in the middle of the toll road, he remarked, adding that the driver might have been sleepy while heading to Sidoarjo in high speed.

ANTARA had reported earlier that several fatal accidents had posed a steady challenge to Indonesia's reputation in transportation safety.

On July 18, 2022, a fuel tanker truck collided with several vehicles on the Transyogi Alternative Street Cibubur, Bekasi City, West Java, killing 10 people.

On August 31, 2022, another deadly road traffic accident recurred. This time, the crash involved a trailer truck on the Sultan Agung Road, Bekasi, West Java.

The accident, which occurred at a time coinciding with the conclusion of the class at the Kota Baru II and III Public Primary School, claimed 10 lives.

In September 2019, at least six died in a crash involving multiple cars at Cipularang toll road's KM 91+400 in Purwakarta, West Java Province.

According to spokesman of state-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga Tbk Dwimawan Heru, no less than 10 vehicles were involved in this lethal accident.

On July 19, 2019, five people lost their lives, while three others suffered grave injuries after a pickup car rammed into a minivan on the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) toll road in West Java.
