Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Southeast Sulawesi Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office and Southeast Sulawesi government synergized to launch the Food Inflation Control National Movement (GNPIP) in Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi, on Wednesday.

The expert staff of Southeast Sulawesi Governor for Community and Human Resources, Abdul Rahim, stated here on Wednesday that the launch of the movement was a follow-up to the instruction of President Joko Widodo to invite the community to make efforts to control inflation.

“I am optimistic that with various potentials that Southeast Sulawesi has, and the sound synergy between regional governments, components of the governments, and the community, we can overcome the challenge of inflation in Southeast Sulawesi,” he remarked.

Head of the Southeast Sulawesi BI Representative Office Doni Septadijaya stated that amid the high economic growth, Indonesia, including Southeast Sulawesi, still faced the challenge of an increase in inflation, especially for the prices of horticulture commodities, such as chili and shallots.

He noted that as of September 2022, Southeast Sulawesi experienced an inflation of 0.42 percent. Commodities that contributed to inflation were fuel and air transportation costs.

“However, inflation was curbed by the decrease in prices of fishery commodities and various efforts made by the government to improve the productivity of food crops,” Septadijaya remarked.

Southeast Sulawesi has become one of the most responsive regions in the implementation of GNPIP that is realized through the launch of the chili planting movement to control inflation, or the Tabe Di movement.

“The implementation has been expanded to various regions, such as South Konawe, North Konawe, East Kolaka, and Bombana,” he stated.

According to Septadijaya, the active collaboration between BI, the government, and stakeholders is vital to support economic growth and maintain economic stability amid the political turmoil.

“Let us jointly strengthen synergy to recover faster and rise stronger,” he remarked. (INE)
