Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Police clarified that an attempt by an unknown woman on Tuesday morning to point a gun at the Presidential Security Guard (Paspampres) officer and trespass Merdeka Palace is not an act of terrorism.

"It is not an act of terror. Do not assume something, as we will inform more later. There are a lot of possibilities, and the action is not necessarily a terrorism act," Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran stated here Tuesday.

He affirmed that the police would continue to investigate the lone suspect and probe the suspect's motives and possible links to a particular organization.

Residents must not become alarmed by the attempt, as the police have a special task force to investigate and prevent acts of terrorism and are ready to be deployed at any time, the police chief added.

"The Jakarta Police has regional task forces to investigate acts of terrorism. Residents must not be alarmed, Jakarta's situation is conducive, and we have capabilities to prevent (terror acts)," Imran remarked.

Earlier, Jakarta Police's traffic police officers apprehended an unknown woman approaching the palace gate from the north direction, attempting to point a gun at a Paspampres officer and trespass the Merdeka Palace.

The police arrested the suspect along with one FN gun and a black bag containing a holy book, a pink wallet, and a mobile phone.

She was later brought to the Jakarta Police headquarters and handed over to the regional police's national security sub-directorate for investigation.

The Jakarta Police also involved the Police's Forensics Laboratory Centre (Puslabfor) to examine the gun's origin and to determine whether the gun was self-made or manufactured professionally.
