The central government, regional governments, and even village-level governments channel this protection as a social safety net strategy to prevent povertyJakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin affirmed that the Workers Social Security Protection Program is one of the government's social safety net strategies to prevent poverty.
"The central government, regional governments, and even village-level governments channel this protection as a social safety net strategy to prevent poverty," Amin noted in his remarks at the launch of the National Movement for the Protection of Vulnerable Workers and the Awarding of the 2021 Paritrana Employment Social Security Award here, Thursday.
As a poverty prevention strategy, the protection program is also expected to provide a sense of security, both for workers and their families, in unexpected times, for instance, in the form of providing certainty of economic sustainability if something unexpected occurs, he added.

The vice president explained that employment social security was earlier identical to formal workers. However, the program has been able to reach 1.8 million vulnerable workers or informal non-wage workers through local governments and business entities.
"We see that there are still many vulnerable workers, who have not been protected and need a sense of security while working. Hence, protection for vulnerable workers is given to farmers, fishermen, planters, ranchers, Quran-reading teachers, religious officers, and street vendors," he stated.
On the occasion, Amin also witnessed the handing over of the 2021 Paritrana Award to several actors and business entities as well as local governments that are concerned about the protection of workers.
