Jakarta (ANTARA) - Blue finance will prioritize environmental sustainability, National Development Planning Ministry (PPN)/Bappenas Secretary Taufik Hanafi stated during the Guideline on Blue Finance Instrument Development document unveiling press conference here, Tuesday.

The implementation of blue economy will not drain natural resources by considering environmental preservation, the people's prosperity, and other impacts that it causes, he remarked.

The development of blue economy also aims to resolve the challenges of our exploitative, destructive economic system that exceeds the ecosystem's capacity or supporting power.

According to Hanafi, as the largest archipelago state in the world, Indonesia should optimize the potential of the blue sector to encourage national economic growth, albeit still considering the sustainability aspect.

On the occasion, Marine and Fishery Director at Bappenas Sri Yanti noted that the blue economy will prioritize the development of projects in conservation areas since they have tourism potential.

She also highlighted the progress of this blue economy, thus far, which is formulated along with the Finance Ministry, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, and other stakeholders.

"This blue economy, the big picture is not yet clearly illustrated," she remarked.

"However, we have estimates on what we will work on, how much the funding is going to be, and what are the related sectors within it," she remarked.

Meanwhile, PPN Minister Suharso Monoarfa noted that the guideline unveiling aims to strengthen and expedite the development of national economic growth.

It was also undertaken to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) targets, particularly the Goal 13 on climate action and Goal 14 on life below water.

"We realize that a supporting policy is required since the challenges to funding in the future will become more difficult,” he said.
