Banjarnegara, C Java (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan is planning to subsidize flour made from cassava, which is called mocaf flour, to boost the competitiveness of the product made by the local community.

"It is the creation of our young people; it has the potential to substitute (wheat) flour, and absorb people's agricultural products. We must support this together," he said while attending a National Movement for Food Inflation Control event here on Friday.

Currently, the price of mocaf flour is Rp15 thousand (US$0.95) per kilogram (kg), which is higher than the price of wheat flour of Rp10,880 (US$0.69) per kg, he noted.

Hence, his ministry is planning to provide a subsidy of Rp3 thousand (US$0.19) per kg for the local product so that mocaf flour can be sold to consumers at a price of Rp12 thousand (US$0.76) per kg.

During the event on Friday, the minister also inaugurated the Banjarnegara Mocaf House and witnessed the awarding of the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) record for the most servings of snacks made from mocaf flour at 20 thousand packages.

"I am delighted today because of the awarding of this MURI record for mocaf flour. It shows us that no matter how difficult it is, we can be successful -- the key is collaboration," he remarked.

The MURI record was the result of a collaboration between the central government, the Banjarnegara district government, Bank Indonesia, and the local community.

Furthermore, Hasan also disbursed direct cash assistance (BLT) on account of the increase in fuel (BBM) prices and reviewed an exhibition of products made from mocaf flour, such as biscuits, chicken noodles, and chips.

In addition, he dispatched an export consignment of mocaf flour to Turkey. He said he expected that the original Indonesian product will become increasingly known globally.
