The position of Indonesian tourism and the creative economy continues to increase sharply. Following reopening (after the COVID-19 pandemic), it is now up by 12 ranks on the tourism index
Solo, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Pesona Indonesia Generation (Genpi) has strengthened the position of Indonesian tourism in the eyes of the world, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has said.

"The position of Indonesian tourism and the creative economy continues to increase sharply. Following reopening (after the COVID-19 pandemic), it is now up by 12 ranks on the tourism index," Uno noted at the 3rd National Coordination Meeting for Genpi at Novotel Hotel Solo on Saturday.

He said that Indonesia’s creative economy is the third largest in the world after the United States and Thailand.

"This is thanks to the support from Genpi. The Pesona Indonesia generation who likes healing, (giving remedy for) feelings, as well as refreshing but doesn't want their wallets empty, let alone a headache," he remarked.

He also lauded the Surakarta government for transforming Solo into an international-class event venue.

"This requires (involvement) from each stakeholder, including the regional head to the public," he said.

Developing the tourism sector requires immense cooperation among various stakeholders. It is expected that the tourism and creative economy sectors will be able to create 1.1 million new jobs this year and 4.4 million new jobs in 2024, he added.

He then urged Genpi to become involved in informing the public about international class events, including concerts headlining foreign musicians, and the kind of preparation needed to participate in it.

For instance, the recent NCT 127 concert had to be stopped after dozens of spectators fainted while the concert was in progress due to a lack of information on standard operating procedures for the audience, Uno said.

"Actually the NCT (concert) was held professionally, the concert location was also spacious. However, due to the ignorance of the visitors, as a result, the concert had to be disbanded," he added.
