Malang, Jawa Timur (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, is seeking to attract investors to the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Malang District, East Java.

To bring investors, the creative economy ecosystem in the area must be enlivened and made attractive for investment, Uno said in Malang District on Tuesday.

"Investment requires an ecosystem. Once the ecosystem is formed, (investment) will come by itself," he remarked.

For now, the creative economy ecosystem, especially the animation industry sector, has started running in Singhasari SEZ, he added.

He said he hopes that the existence of the ecosystem can attract investors from within and outside the country.

According to him, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will also promote the Singhasari SEZ to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and a number of other countries in the near future. The promotion of the SEZ is necessary so that the area can be introduced to investors.

"All we have to do is invite Singhasari SEZ for road shows in Qatar and Saudi and there are several other road shows to attract investors," the minister said.

He expressed the hope that Singhasari SEZ will become one of the instruments to create 1.1 million jobs this year. The SEZ is expected to help create job opportunities for 4.4 million people by 2024.

In addition to trying to attract investors to Singhasari SEZ, a number of activities will be held in the area to revive the creative economy.

"Events must be reproduced here. Later, I will cooperate and invite Friends of Creative Economy. Maybe we can launch a ‘Road to World Conference of Creative Economy’ here," he said.

On Tuesday, Uno also inaugurated the Animation and Film Factory (AFF), which marked the readiness to operate Singhasari SEZ. AFF is one of the business clusters being developed at the SEZ, namely the content business.

AFF currently has around 20 studios with 500 creators, who are following the plasma-core pattern. The SEZ has at least six business clusters—education, content, computing, trade, tourism, and renewable energy.
