Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director of information empowerment at the Communication and Information Ministry, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, on Wednesday urged the state civil apparatus (ASN) to adopt digital technology to improve the quality of services offered to the community.

"Through digital literacy training, it is hoped that it can increase knowledge, understanding, awareness, and skills in utilizing digital technology, increase awareness on the security of devices and accounts used, and encourage the ASN to become familiar with and adopt digital technology to improve the quality of public services provided to the community," he said in a written statement.

Earlier, the ministry collaborated with the government of Purbalingga district, Central Java, to hold training on digital literacy in the government sector for ASN in the district. The training aimed to improve ASN’s understanding of digital literacy, which is one of the ministry's national targets for digital transformation.

The National Digital Literacy Index Survey conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Katadata Insight Center pegged the Indonesian people's digital literacy at 3.49 out of 5.00 in 2021.

The score showed that digital literacy in Indonesia was in the "moderate" category. Digital literacy training in the government sector is a part of the ministry's efforts to improve digital literacy among ASN to accelerate the digital transformation.

Acting district head of Purbalingga, Dyah Hayuning Pratiwi, said that the ASN must follow the development of technology and support digital literacy improvement programs.

"ASN must be wise in using the Internet. We also need to implement digital literacy pillars in daily life," she said.

Pratiwi also urged the ASN to utilize digital technology to provide public services and innovate by using technology because they are the spearhead of government.
