Jakarta (ANTARA) - Directorate General for Construction Development at the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry has targeted to train 8,500 workers in 2023 to support the development of Indonesia’s future capital city (IKN) Nusantara.

Director of Construction Competency and Productivity at the directorate general Dedy Natifahrizal Dedisky Nazaroeddin noted in a seminar titled "Business opportunities in IKN" in Tangerang District, Banten Province, on Wednesday that the budget for training had been allocated.

Nazaroeddin remarked that the training would be conducted at four regional construction service centers.

"Thus, it (the training) will not only (be conducted) in the (Construction Service Center of) Kalimantan region, but it is also supported by the Construction Service Centers in three other regions," he noted.

The four construction service centers were the Region III Construction Service Center of Jakarta, Banten, and West Java, as well as the Region IV Construction Service Center of Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

In addition, the Region V Construction Service Center of West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan; as well as the Region VI Construction Service Center of North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi will partake in the training.

"We hope there would be cooperation between business entities, construction services, associations, other ministries or state agencies, as well as local governments to jointly support infrastructure development of IKN," the director added.

Earlier, the PUPR Ministry had also made preparations for the residents of Sepaku Sub-district, North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan Province, where the new capital city would be built, to serve as prospective workers for the construction of IKN.

The ministry was targeted to train 9,300 construction workers in 2022.

The trainees learnt several skills, including laying bricks, painting, making iron structure for foundation or reinforced concrete, plastering walls, and installing light steel roofs.

After completing the training, the participants will receive certificates according to their respective skills and expertise.
