Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin paid a visit to the Cianjur Regional General Hospital, West Java, on Wednesday to ensure that earthquake victims receive the best treatment, so they can recover well.

"Those who are minorly injured should recover quickly," Sadikin remarked while also appealing to health workers at Cianjur Hospital to make utmost efforts to ensure that victims, who were seriously hurt, did not die.

According to the minister, patients who cannot be treated at Cianjur Hospital had been referred to hospitals located in other areas, such as Bandung, Sukabumi, and Bogor.

During his visit, the minister also reviewed available medical facilities to ensure that patient care ran optimally at Cianjur Hospital. However, he assessed that the hospital currently needed surgeons and orthopedics.

"These orthopedics and surgeons have come from Hasanuddin Hospital and Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung," he remarked.

So far, the situation at Cianjur Regional Hospital has been quieter than on Monday evening, the day the earthquake occurred. However, several patients were still being treated in tents outside the building.

Meanwhile, 86 earthquake victims are still receiving treatment at the Sayang General Hospital, the hospital's Acting President Director, Darmawan Setiabudhi Dahlan, remarked on Wednesday.

Dahlan said his side had handled at least 656 earthquake victims. However, some had been referred to other hospitals or discharged as they had already recovered or no longer needed inpatient treatment.

"Some are referred to 11 hospitals, namely to RSHS Bandung, Sukabumi Hospital, Samsudin Hospital, Ujungberung Hospital, Santosa Hospital, Boromeus Hospital, Ciawi Hospital, and others," he stated.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) stated that the earthquake in Cianjur caused 268 casualties, while search was still underway for 151 missing residents.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported 161 occurrences of aftershocks as of Wednesday morning, with the strongest magnitude at 4.2 and the weakest at 1.2.
