"Currently, the ministry has dispatched a team to directly monitor the condition on the field and strive for children- and women-friendly disaster mitigation," Child Special Protection Deputy at the Ministry Nahar noted.
"This includes supporting the provision of data on high-risk groups and assisting children and women at the disaster site," he noted through a statement on Tuesday.
Assistance to women and children is implemented, as they are more vulnerable to violence at evacuation locations and require specific needs that have to be met during disaster, he remarked.
The ministry has also prepared 100 specific need aid packages for children, with 24 packages reserved for children up to two years of age, 20 packages for children aged between three and seven years, and 56 packages for children aged 8-18 years.
These specific aid packages comprise baby diapers, biscuits, baby porridge, powdered milk, children's masks, sanitary equipment, wooden toys, and prayer equipment.
Children wounded due to natural disasters require special protection, and this extends to women, Nahar stated.
The ministry urged the local government to prepare women- and children-friendly posts at the Cianjur earthquake evacuation area.
This should be undertaken as a form of disaster mitigation response that is friendly toward vulnerable groups, which also include the elderly population and people with disabilities, he explained.
On Monday, an earthquake, measuring 5.6 in magnitude (M), rattled the southwest of Cianjur, West Java. Based on information provided by BMKG, the quake struck at 1:21 p.m. local time.
