The regional government will provide various trainings, including encouraging the relocated residents to become entrepreneurs or grow crops which are economically beneficial...Cianjur, W Java (ANTARA) - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry has begun the Phase III construction of relocation housing in Batulawang village, Cianjur district, West Java province, for Cianjur quake victims.
Cianjur District Head Herman Suherman said here on Wednesday that the construction finally started after the location was approved as a relocation site by the central government and his party got permission to use the land from its previous owner.
"The houses will be occupied by residents from two areas which are located in the red zone of the Cugenang Fault, namely Sarampad village, Cugenang sub-district, as well as Rawacina hamlet, Nagrak village, Cianjur sub-district," he added.
He said he expects the construction of around 150 units of the relocation houses to be completed in the next few months so that earthquake victims can immediately move into them.
Almost seven months after the 5.6-magnitude earthquake of November 21, 2022, hundreds of victims were still living in tents and emergency shelters since they were not included as recipients of the government’s assistance for rebuilding homes, Suherman revealed.
He said that his party will also ask the Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade, as well as Industry Office of Cianjur district to provide various types of entrepreneurship training to the victims to help them increase their income.
"The regional government will provide various trainings, including encouraging the relocated residents to become entrepreneurs or grow crops, which are economically beneficial, thus economic activity in the housing complex can continue to run," he informed.
The PUPR Ministry completed the construction of 200 units of relocation houses under Phase I in Cilaku sub-district in March 2023 and 151 units in Mande sub-district under Phase II in April.
The houses were built using an earthquake-resistant housing technology called the Simple, Healthy Instant House (RISHA).
