We hope that the hand-washing facility can help the school, especially children, to always wash their hands cleanly, with running water and soap, and with six steps, so that children can be healthier and stronger
Jakarta (ANTARA) - First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo and Second Lady Wury Ma'ruf Amin on Thursday taught early childhood education (PAUD) students about sorting waste and washing hands with soap in Palembang, South Sumatra.

Upon their arrival at Asuhan Bunda II PAUD, Iriana, Wury, and members of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet Era Solidarity Action Organization (OASE KIM) were greeted by students singing a traditional song, Burung Kakatua (The Cockatoo), along with a marching band and flowers.

According to a press release received from the Presidential Secretariat here, the First Lady invited the students to join a learn-and-play activity involving garbage sorting and hand-washing with soap.

"Who wants to sing? Who can dance?" Iriana asked the children.

"I can...," the children replied in unison.

After singing, the children were asked to guess the pictures of fruits and animals shown by Iriana and Wury, and those who answered quickly and correctly received gifts.

The First Lady, the Second Lady, and OASE members also gave more gifts to the young students.

Head II of OASE, Kartika Basuki Hadimuljono, said that the OASE provided assistance in the form of children's reading books, sinks, scales, and thematic trash cans.

"We hope that the hand-washing facility can help the school, especially children, to always wash their hands cleanly, with running water and soap, and with six steps, so that children can be healthier and stronger," Hadimuljono added.

The government has bolstered the Washing Hands with Soap (CPTS) Movement to prevent the spread of diseases, especially COVID-19.

Schools are playing an important role in educating students about living a healthy and hygienic life.

In 2020, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology issued a circular asking educational units to ensure good CPTS practices, such as providing hand-washing facilities and making sure students wash their hands for a minimum of 40 seconds and dry them afterward.
