Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) underscored the importance of Indonesia's current development being continued by the next Indonesian leader in order to realize "Golden Indonesia 2045."

"What we have built, we must maintain its continuity, agree? This is what we must protect together, not only for 2024, not only for 2029, but for Golden Indonesia 2045 and beyond," Jokowi stated while addressing thousands of his supporters during the United Nusantara gathering held at the Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) here on Saturday.

Jokowi said the current development was already on the right track, so it must not be forgotten due to a momentary political interest during the next leadership period.

"Lest momentary interests, short-term interests, political interests, (make us) forget to maintain the continuity of development that we have started," he affirmed.

The president said that infrastructure development during his leadership period was an important foundation for developing Indonesia to become a developed nation.

"We are starting to feel the results of massive infrastructure development over the past eight years. However, we will feel more in the next five to 10 years. Our children and grandchildren will feel this. This is what we are preparing from now on," he noted.

However, apart from these achievements, several improvements are needed to bring Indonesia to glory.

"I know that not all of what we wish had been achieved. Therefore, I emphasize the very importance of continuity. Similarity of vision and mission in future is very important. Those who are already on the right track must continue, continue, agree?" Jokowi stated during the large gathering.

The president also expressed optimism that through the hard work of all elements of the Indonesian nation in achieving a golden age in 2045, it would be able to become a developed country that holds the top five strongest economies in the world.

"We want our economy's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) to reach US$7 trillion in 2045, meaning that we are a developed country by that time. However, this is not easy. It requires hard work," Jokowi stated.

The Organizing Committee Chairman of United Nusantara was the President's Special Staff Aminuddin Ma'ruf, while Chairman of the Steering Committee (SC) of the event was Arsjad Rasjid, who is chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

Ma'ruf said the United Nusantara gathering was attended by some 150 thousand supporters of Jokowi from across the country.

General elections will be held in Indonesia in 2024 when President Jokowi will complete his second and final term of office.
