"When the presidential letter (notifying) the proposed TNI commander name was received yesterday, the letter received by DPR RI leadership. They will then organise a leadership meeting (at the) Deliberative Body, which will assign the Commission I to follow up the process," chairperson of DPR’s Commission I, Meutya Hafid, said in a video published on her Instagram account @meutya_hafid on Tuesday.
The fit and proper test is pending the Deliberative Body decision, she added.
"We appeal for patience among colleagues who asked when the fit and proper test will take place because we are yet to receive the assignment from the Deliberative Body," Hafid said.
The parliament still has time to organize the fit and proper test for Margono before it takes a recess in mid-December, the legislator added.
"We still have 20 days, per law, to answer the President's letter on the proposed TNI commander candidate. We still have enough time before the parliament recess on December 15 or 16 (2022),” she affirmed.
Hafid said that the parliament is determined to complete the process before it takes a recess and before the incumbent TNI commander, General Andika Perkasa, enters his retirement age on December 31.
After conducting the fit and proper test, a parliamentary commission will also visit Margono's home, she said adding, the customary visit will be undertaken by DPR’s Commission I.
Earlier on Monday (November 28), DPR Speaker Puan Maharani received the Presidential letter proposing Admiral Margono as the new TNI commander.
Maharani affirmed that the parliament will complete the process of his appointment before it takes a recess.
