"(To avoid) avalanches that cause human and vehicle accidents, we carry out traffic engineering by limiting the number of vehicles passing through the Cikereteg Bridge," Bogor Police Chief Iman Imanuddin said here on Sunday.
He said that large vehicles heading to Sukabumi were directed to enter the Rancamaya Toll Gate and Ciawi Toll Gate. Meanwhile, large vehicles heading from the other way or to Bogor were directed to enter the Cigombong Toll Gate and Caringin Toll Gate.
"Vehicles with large tonnage do not go through the Cikereteg Bridge," Imanuddin said, adding that two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles can still pass through the bridge, but alternatively.
"Blocking and opening the (bridge) from the Sukabumi direction and the Bogor direction is carried out alternatively. We do this to reduce the burden of the bridge," he explained.
Bogor Police also dispatched the traffic unit members, and asked the Ciawi Police to assist the process of implementing the traffic engineering around the Cikereteg Bridge.
According to him, the bridge with a length of 50 meters and 25 meters in height was hit by a landslide on Saturday (December 3).
He said that the Bogor Police had sent a letter to the Bogor District Public Works and Spatial Planning Office requesting it to repair the bridge road. The letter was immediately responded to with coordination efforts from the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry because the Bogor-Sukabumi Toll Road is a national road.
Imanuddin appealed to road users passing through the Cikereteg Bridge to remain cautious and obey the instructions of the traffic control officers.
"Private vehicles (drivers) be careful, follow our on-field officers' instruction, for our common safety," he said.
