Construction is one of the sectors affected by COVID-19, including in several Southeast Asian countries, the ministry's official, Haiyani Rumondangan, stated during the report workshop and unveiling streamed online on Tuesday.
To support economic recovery in the construction sector, awareness toward K3 implementation in the construction sector should be strengthened, she remarked.
To this end, research related to K3 implementation justification is expected to strengthen K3 by showcasing knowledge and experience as part of economic rationality to justify implementation of the K3 program at the workplace.
This can also be used to encourage and motivate national construction companies' management to carefully evaluate their K3 Program, she elaborated.
The ASEAN-OSHNET (Occupational Safety and Health Network) has a strong commitment to improving work safety and health, she stated.
Based on the 2021-2025 ASEAN-OSHNET work plan, Indonesia, as the research program coordinator, has conducted research on economic justification in the implementation of K3 in the construction sector.
The pilot project, undertaken by Indonesia since 2018-2019, targets evaluation of work safety and health program in several construction companies through the economic perspective.
Research was then undertaken to uncover the economic perspective for the implementation of work safety and health program in the construction sector.
Through the second workshop of this research, every ASEAN member country is expected to obtain valuable insights into the condition of work safety and health in every country, Rumondang remarked.
Moreover, all ASEAN member countries are expected to learn factors of success and challenges in implementing work safety and health, she noted.
