(Employee) regeneration is the key to maintaining the continuity of SOEs’ transformation.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has asked state-run companies to prioritize creating new job opportunities in all the projects they implement to absorb more domestic workforce and promote national economic growth.

"Since (the beginning of) the pandemic, employment has become one of the issues which must be addressed," he said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

He asked the enterprises to not be complacent about their achievements so far, which have helped create jobs for more than 45 million people in the informal sector.

The figure comprises 32.1 million state-owned bank PT BRI’s People's Business Credit (KUR) customers as well as 12.7 million micro, small, and medium sector players, who participated in state-run microlender PT Permodalan Nasional Madani’s (PNM’s) Prosperous Family Economic Development (Mekaar) Program.

Furthermore, it comprises 439 thousand forest village cultivation workers, 163,761 farmers who are members of the Let’s Advance People’s Business (Makmur) Program, and 210 thousand farmers who participated in agricultural SOE PT Perkebunan Nusantara’s (PTPN’s) partnership program.

In addition, the figure includes 270 thousand informal workers absorbed by state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero), PT Freeport Indonesia, and PT Bukit Asam, that are members of state-run mining holding MIND ID, as well as the Trans Sumatra Toll Road construction project.

"With all the resources, I am confident that SOEs can contribute much more," the minister said.

In addition to creating jobs in all projects, SOEs have held two batches of the joint open recruitment program to demonstrate the commitment of the companies to creating more jobs for the domestic workforce, he informed.

Hence, Thohir said that state-run enterprises—which make up one-third of the nation’s economic power—do not only contribute to economic growth, but also have a direct and positive impact on society.

Thirty-eight corporations participated in the second batch of the SOEs’ open recruitment program, which was held from December 1–7, 2022, he informed. The corporations were looking to hire 898 employees, he added.

"(Employee) regeneration is the key to maintaining the continuity of SOEs’ transformation. Hence, we open opportunities for the best nation’s children to join SOEs and contribute to the country," he added.
