Jakarta (ANTARA) - Data is playing an important role in supporting the effort to improve the quality of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program, the National Social Insurance Council (DJSN) has said.

Improving JKN program's quality necessitates various accurate policies, decisions, and efforts from the government, the National Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan), and all parties in the National Social Insurance System (SJSN) ecosystem.

This requires analyzing valid, up-to-date, and comprehensive data and information on JKN implementation, chairperson of the DJSN Honorary Council, Harry Hikmat, said during the launch of the 2016–2021 JKN Statistics Book here on Wednesday.

In relation to this, DJSN, along with BPJS Kesehatan and USAID's Health Financing Activity (HFA), held a routine agenda to publish the JKN Statistics Book, he informed.

This was intended to provide information to the public on the development of the JKN program and to support the evidence-based policy creation process.

As mandated within Law No. 40 of 2004 on the National Social Insurance System, social insurance is part of social protection, he noted.

"To this end, SJSN implementation should be able to meet the basic necessities of decent living for all of Indonesians," Hikmat remarked.

National Health Insurance, as part of the SJSN, exists to provide health protection in meeting Indonesians' basic necessities, he said.

Meanwhile, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture said that the 2016–2021 JKN Statistics Book is expected to be a reference for stakeholders in making decisions related to health insurance in Indonesia.

"It is hoped that the 2016–2021 JKN Statistics Book will become an accurate and up-to-date source of data," a ministry official, Andie Megantara, said.

“Thus, it can become a reference on health insurance (implementation) in Indonesia to improve people's welfare," he added.
