Klungkung, Bali (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini urged one and all to foster social solidarity in order to develop the nation.

At the commemoration of National Social Solidarity Day (HKSN) in Klungkung District, Bali, on Tuesday, the minister noted that several events were conducted in a bid to pursue the goal.

"The direction we want is for us to be able to return to being a great Indonesian nation by pursuing mutual cooperation and solidarity," she stated.

The commemoration was synergized with that of the International Day of Disabilities that was also hosted at the Social Affairs Ministry's units in some areas. The theme was "Rising Together to Build the Nation."

"Why did we create the title 'Rise Together to Build the Nation'? The goal is to rise together. There is nobody of higher or lower (status) in advancing this nation, fighting poverty, ignorance, and backwardness. They have the same rights," he affirmed.

The commemorations are based on the belief that every citizen can offer profound contribution, not only the government but also social institutions, social pillars, and also the business sector.

HKSN is commemorated through activities that promote better social participation, solidarity, harmony, mutual assistance, empathy, sharing, and tolerance.

The activities include renovating houses of people with disabilities, establishment of clean water facilities, building schools, and some surgeries for cataract treatment at 31 sites.

Other activities at the event include awarding those who have contributed in tackling social welfare issues; launch of the national programs encompassing aspects, such as housing, food, elderly people, orphans, and people with disability.

Bali Province chosen as host for the year's National Social Solidarity Day serves as a mark of commendation to that government and its people. Balinese people are able to maintain the foundation of social integrity that are kinship, mutual cooperation, and so on.

The ministry, through its various work units, has hosted various community empowerment activities, including in Bali.

During the event, several forms of business support were extended, as a means to support the recovery of the national economy. The businesses that are assisted comprise food stalls, ornamental plants, bamboo handicrafts, hawkers, pig farming, laundry, and massage facilities.

Total value of the assistance reached around Rp2.5 billion and was distributed to over 3,400 beneficiaries across the province.

The series of activities were conducted in eight districts and cities in Bali Province. Minister Rismaharini got in touch with the beneficiaries and the community through virtual means.
