Karawang, West Java (ANTARA) - The Cikampek Toll Road towards the Trans Java Toll Road and Bandung was congested on Saturday, a day before Christmas.

Based on ANTARA’s observation as of 1 p.m. local time, several vehicles were stuck on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road KM 48, Karawang, West Java.

As the police had stopped contraflow traffic engineering, toll road users returned to crossing the regular lane.

The Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road KM 48 is a meeting point between traffic coming from the existing Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road and the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed or MBZ Elevated Toll Road.

At the location, some police personnel were seen handling the traffic heading towards Trans Java and Bandung at the intersection of the Jakarta-Cikampek and the MBZ Toll Roads.

Earlier, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated that the Jakarta, Cikampek, and Semarang toll roads were crucial points that tended to get overcrowded during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

To anticipate traffic congestion, the traffic engineering management, such as the one way or contraflow scheme was implemented.

Sumadi also urged the public to be aware of the potential for extreme weather during the year-end holiday season as forecast by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The Ministry of Transportation has coordinated with various parties, such as the Police, BMKG, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, state-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga, and other related elements, to make efforts to anticipate overcrowding and overcome the risk of flooding.

Meanwhile, PT Jasa Marga-Trans Java Toll advised travelers to drive safely and abide by the speed limit while crossing the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road during this year's Christmas holiday.

Travelers are urged to ensure having sufficient fuel and balance in their electronic money cards while using toll roads.
