For development, we only have four hours in one day — work hours and midnight. That is the problem with development in Manggarai
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The limited railway operation hours meant that the second phase of the Manggarai Station revitalization project would be completed in the 2024-2025 period, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.

"For development, we only have four hours in one day — work hours and midnight. That is the problem with development in Manggarai," President Jokowi noted at the inauguration of the revitalization of Manggarai Station here on Monday.

The head of state remarked that the development of Manggarai Station could not be completed in a short period of time since it was still serving the commuter line routes and airport train passengers.

Currently, the first phase of the station's revitalization has been completed, upgrading it with additional seven tracks, thereby making a total of 14 train lines comprising 10 lower rail lines (on grid) and four elevated train lines, he stated.

Jokowi explained that in the second phase, Manggarai Station would become an integrated central station offering passengers with a choice of using the Commuter Line, long-distance trains, and airport trains.

Later on, Manggarai Station will also have 18 lanes as well as a more spacious waiting area.

Manggarai Station had to serve some 726 train trips every day, with a total of 1.2 million passengers, causing congestion in queues to Manggarai Station. Currently, it has also reached 1,081 train trips every day.

President Jokowi stated that development of the station — which is done with the addition of railroad lines — was necessary to handle the frequency and headway of train travel and increase accessibility and travel of people from Jakarta to other supporting cities and vice versa.

The revitalization will also allow people in travelling to Soekarno-Hatta Airport with an airport train as well as make it easier for them to use public transportation, as it is integrated with TransJakarta, online motorcycle taxis, bajaj, and others.

"With better and more integrated facilities, connectivity will be even better. Community mobility and activities will be smoother and more efficient, and people will be more comfortable in using mass transportation and using public transportation," he concluded.
