Cilacap, C Java (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday launched its weather forecast for land transportation routes across Central Java province for the benefit of travelers ahead of the New Year holiday season.

"This land route weather forecast information has been developed by BMKG’s Ahmad Yani Semarang Class II Meteorology Station (Stamet)," head of the technician group of BMKG’s Tunggul Wulung Cilacap Class III Stamet, Teguh Wardoyo, said here on Monday.

The weather data can be accessed through the website posko.cuacajateng.com, he informed.

The website will provide daily weather predictions for every district and city on the northern, middle, and southern routes of the province, he said.

Eight maps will be published daily, each containing weather information for every three hours, the official added.

The webpage will also provide weather forecasts for various tourism destinations in the province, he said.

"In addition, the posko.cuacajateng.com site will also have information on weather forecasts for landslide-prone areas along the provincial roads throughout Central Java province," he added.

Furthermore, it will provide weather forecasts for Mount Merapi, Wardoyo noted.

He said he expects the information published by the website to be useful for people planning to vacation in the province during the year-end holiday period.

"By accessing the website, it is hoped that the public will be able to find out the weather forecast at the land transportation routes they will use and at their destination areas, thus they can prepare (for the impact of the weather) as early as possible (before traveling)," he added.

Earlier, head of BMKG, Dwikorita Karnawati, had urged people in several provinces to remain vigilant for the potential for extreme weather ahead of the year-end holiday season.

Some provinces should be prepared for the potential for heavy to very heavy downpours from December 25, 2022, to January 1, 2023, she said.

The provinces comprise Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and Maluku, she added.
