Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is preparing logistical support for regional governments to prepare for extreme weather during the year-end holidays.

"Earlier, the head of BNPB said that we are ready to support logistics. For regions that need rubber boats or ready-to-eat food, we have prepared them at the BNPB warehouse," Acting Head of BNPB's Disaster Data and Information Center Abdul Muhari said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Logistics have not only been prepared for the provincial government of Jakarta, where very heavy rain has been forecast, he added. They have also been kept ready for other local governments in regions that have the potential to be affected by cloud movements.

He attributed the high-intensity rains to the movement of clouds from the Indian Ocean as well as clouds from west-south to the north-central western part of Java Island.

"We have also coordinated with the Jakarta provincial government to prepare equipment and personnel, pumps, rubber boats, and others. In general, the head of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said they were ready for potential inundations," Muhari added.

The preparations by BNPB and the Jakarta government will not only apply to the potential for heavy rain on December 28, 2022, but until the New Year.

Based on information posted via social media, a climatologist from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Dr. Erma Yulihastin, has said there is a
potential for major flooding in Greater Jakarta and Banten, which could be caused by extreme rain and severe storms.

According to observations, a rain toll lane from sea to land formed at 3 a.m. local time on Tuesday. This squall line storm in the Indian Ocean joined with a mesoscale convective storm (MCC) that formed on land, with the storm’s core over Banten region.
