This time, the flooding is unusual. It even occurred twice less than a month apartMakassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Makassar City, South Sulawesi, reported that 3,344 houses in the city were affected by the flood that occurred in the city.
Executive Chief of Makassar BPBD Achmad Hendra Hakamuddin noted in a statement on Wednesday that currently, three sub-districts of Manggala, Biringkanaya, and Tamalanrea were affected by the flooding.
The 3,344 houses are spread across 19 villages, with the total number of affected residents reaching 9,167 people, or 2,695 families.
The number of evacuees in the three subdistricts stood at 1,634 people, or 442 families, and they are spread across 28 evacuation locations.

Manggala Sub-district recorded the most number of evacuees, reaching 1,037 people or 264 families. Some 17 evacuation locations in the sub-district comprise 14 in Manggala Village, two in Antang Village, and one in Tamangapa Village.
Moreover, 577 people, or 160 families, were displaced due to the flood in Biringkanaya Sub-district. Those 577 residents are spread across eight evacuation locations: six in Katimbang Village and two in Paccerakkang Village.
Lastly, Tamalanrea Sub-district recorded 25 people from 10 families that were displaced to the evacuation site at Al Muhajirin Mosque, Tamalanrea Village.

"The BPBD team, along with the Social Office and Health Office and related regional government agencies (OPD), have set up public kitchens and met the needs of clothing and food for the affected victims at the evacuation posts. Hopefully, the weather conditions will improve soon, so that residents can return to their houses to carry out their activities as usual," he stated.
Earlier, Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto stated that this year's floods were the most severe, and their impacts had been widespread. Floods even occurred twice a year in the same area.
According to Pomanto, housing developments that closed waterways had been one of the factors causal to flooding.
"This time, the flooding is unusual. It even occurred twice less than a month apart," he stated.
