Regional cooperation includes clean water, flood management, and others
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono and Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil held a meeting to discuss cooperation in clean water supply and flood handling in the two provinces.

"Regional cooperation includes clean water, flood management, and others," Hartono said at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

The meeting served as an opportunity to exchange ideas for the development of the two neighboring provinces, he added. "We unite our ideas," Hartono said.

Meanwhile, Kamil did not divulge details of the meeting to reporters at Jakarta City Hall. "It is a secret," he told reporters when asked about his visit to Jakarta City Hall.

Kamil, who was wearing a long-sleeved batik suit, arrived at Jakarta City Hall at around 4 p.m. local time.

The Jakarta and West Java provincial governments have established close cooperation for meeting their clean water needs, flood management, and waste handling.

For instance, Jakarta’s waste production, which reaches around 7,800 tons per day, is sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) in Bekasi, West Java.

Likewise, clean water for Jakarta is supplied from several regions in West Java, one of which is Jatiluhur Reservoir.

However, Jakarta's drinking water supply coverage through pipes has only reached around 65 percent of the city's residents.

The demand for clean water in Jakarta is estimated at 26,100 liters per second, while only around 17 thousand liters per second is available for supply.

To meet the target of increasing Jakarta’s water piping network coverage to 100 percent, the government is cooperating with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.

There are several water sources or reservoirs that can help meet the 100-percent coverage target by 2030, such as Jatiluhur I, Buaran III, Karian-Serpong, and Juanda.
