"Operation Aman Nusa II has been prepared as a contingency or emergency operation that runs for one year to deal with natural and non-natural disasters in 2023," Effendy remarked.
He explained that Operation Aman Nusa II is a contingency plan that is conducted immediately and automatically by the Police in case a disaster occurs.
The scope of operations will be divided into the national level by the Police Headquarters and the regional scope by the regional police and sub-regional police across Indonesia.
"The National Police is on standby to face disasters in Operation Aman Nusa II," he stated.
Polri is committed to realizing disaster preparedness, as it is part of the pattern in dealing with disasters.
"This readiness must be immediately put into action by existing units, such as by the National Defense Forces (TNI), Polri, the government, and other stakeholders. It can also involve the community," he affirmed.
One of the police's efforts to anticipate disasters is readying personnel of the Contingency Task Force that is tasked with evacuating victims, distributing assistance, providing health services, and maintaining security during emergency response conditions.
The Contingency Task Force focuses on responding to emergency situations, such as floods, landslides, and strong winds, as well as traffic accidents.
In the operation, Polri also deploys personnel and supporting facilities for search and rescue (SAR) and assists in disaster mitigation, such as identifying victims, trauma-healing for victims, and helping people repair their homes affected by disasters.
Based on the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) data, as of Monday (January 9, 2023), Indonesia had experienced at least 41 disasters, mostly hydrometeorological in nature, such as floods due to extreme weather in Central Java and South Sulawesi.
