"Technical handlings such as the construction of polders, retention basins, pump gates, and embankments in Juwana should be carried out as soon as possible this year. There are several areas in Pati that have characteristics of depressed land (below the surrounding area)," Pranowo said while reviewing flood handling in Pati on Wednesday.
The flood that occurred in Doropayung village, Juwana, is a seasonal flood that often affects residents and other areas in Pati during the rainy season.
In 2014, some locations in Juwana were also hit by a major flood.
Pranowo said that he had asked the Pati district head, village heads in the region, and the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry to help map flood-prone points.
Areas that are prone to flooding need to be handled with technical interventions, such as building polders, pumps, and retention basins, the governor added.
"Pati must have those (to tackle the) flood. Seeing the people (affected by the flood) like that, technical handling should not take long; the handling must be completed in 2023," he said.
The technical handling of floods in Pati district will be carried out by the Central Java provincial government, the Pati administration, the PUPR Ministry, and the River Basin Center (BWS).
"The administration's task is to find the budget source. Regarding the technical matters, I will ask the PUPR Ministry to design the areas, the points, and then cooperate with BWS. Let the province facilitate this so it can be resolved more comprehensively," he said.
According to him, the measure that has proven effective in reducing the overflow of the Silugonggo River was the construction of roads on the banks of the river which also function as an embankment.
