Tulungagung, E Java (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini disbursed Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) to persons with disabilities in Krosok Village, Sendang Sub-district, Tulungagung District, East Java Province, on Saturday.

Along with a member of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sri Rahayu, the minister met a number of deaf children, handed hearing aids assistance to them, and asked them to try the device on.

Rismaharini had a chat with the children and she was delighted to found that the hearing aids worked well.

"All of you must not give up. Nothing is impossible. Trust me, everyone has flaws. However, everyone (also) has advantages. Thus, (we must strive on) how we optimize our advantages to be able to excel," she remarked.

In addition to the hearing aids, Social Affairs Ministry also provided adaptive walking sticks, artificial limbs, therapy devices, wheelchairs, educational equipment, basic food packages, as well as entrepreneurship assistance, worth Rp876,845,900.

Rahayu expressed her gratitude for the ministry’s response to the request for assistance from the people with disabilities in Sendang Sub-district.

"Thank you, Mrs. Risma (Rismaharini), for coming directly (to Sendang Sub-district) to see and provide assistance, both in the form of (assistive) devices as well as (entrepreneurship) skills (improvement), to improve the economy of the people," she stated.

One of the aid recipients, Afin, is a Grade 1 students of Special Education School (SLB) who is suffered from cerebral palsy.

He received an electric multipurpose wheelchair, which can be used to stand and walk.

He was advised by the Social Affairs Minister to use the device carefully.

"Thank you, Mrs. Risma, Afin want to use it to take a walk," he said.

During the visit, the minister was accompanied by Head of Tulungagung District Maryoto Birowo, Deputy Head of Tulungagung District Gatut Sunu Wibowo, Spokesperson of the Tulungagung District Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Marsono, and several other officials.
